Chicago police are questioning a person of interest in a South Side shooting that left three people dead Saturday night.
Chanda Thompson and Cortez Champion were among the three killed in the shooting, which occurred on the 8700 block of King Drive in a parking lot outside a Church’s Chicken and a bakery, theChicago Sun-Times reports. All three victims were 21 years old. Thompson was from south suburban Calumet City, while Champion lived in the 9100 block of South Harper Avenue.
Police have a 17-year-old boy in custody after witnesses reportedly picked him out of a photo lineup, but no charges had been filed as of Sunday evening.
The three, according to ABC Chicago, were at the bakery, A Piece of Cake, to pick up a birthday cake for Thompson’s 2-year-old daughter. They had returned to their vehicle when the gunman ran up to the car, opened fire and fled the scene.
