RENE SYLER: A Seven-Year-Old Sexual Harasser? COME ON NOW!

(TV ALERT! I’ll be on CNN-HLN at 6:30 EST talking about this very topic so leave some good comments!)

Oh boy, I have to get your take on this one! Get this.  A seven-year-old boy has been charged with sexual harassment for kicking another boy in the groin during a fight. It happened in the Boston area (you can read more details here). Are you as stunned as I am about this?

First grader Mark Curran says he was getting off the bus when another boy grabbed him began choking him and then stole his gloves. Little Mark, in what he says was an act of self-defense, kicked the boy in the groin to get away from him.

Mark’s mom contacted the school, thinking they’d be forced to apologize to one another when she was told about the sexual harassment violation. Okay, excuse me just a moment but WHAT THE HELL?

This is one of the most asinine things I have ever heard and if I were a taxpayer in that community I’d REALLY be pissed. These were two boys who had a fight. CORRECTION: one boy who reportedly put his hands on another boy forcing him to try to defend himself. I don’t know about you but I tell my kids not to make the first move but if someone hits you, you have every right to defend yourself. So this boy defends himself then gets accused of sexual harassment by a bunch of executives so busy looking up obscure ways to apply the law (and cover their collective butt) that they miss reality?

Ugh, what a mess. Mark’s been out of school for two weeks and afraid to go back. School officials have egg on their faces, though I’m not sure they care.

So take the poll and leave a comment too. Did school officials handle this the right way? Did they go too far? Did they make a bad situation worse? Is this the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard? Lemme hear ya!

WTF were they thinking?! It’s like they’re validating bullying making the bully into a victim FFS. The kid was obviously defending himself against a kid who should be the one receiving the punishment. What they did is just STUPID.

Craziness ..but good thing he’s a cute white kid. If he were black, he woulda been handcuffed and hauled off to jail…and woulda probably spent the last two weeks sitting in a cell facing attempted murder charges instead of being at home with his mommy.

All sarcasm and cynicism aside, this story is crazy. However, it is important to note that he is not being charged with sexual harrasment by law enforcement or anything. His stupid school is just referring to it as “sexual harrassment” as it pertains to their honor code or whatever.

Just plain stupid, what is wrong with the alleged adults. Kids do this kind of stuff all the time. If anyone was guilty of anything the other kid should have been disciplined for picking on the so called harasser and stealing his gloves.
