First Lady Michelle Obama has officially joined Twitter.

But don’t think you’ll get a personal response from the first lady. The verified account is following five people and approaching 75,000 followers by early afternoon and growing fast. The account will mostly be managed by campaign staff, but any tweets from the first lady herself will be clearly signed “-mo.”

“We’re excited today to launch @michelleobama as a new way for you to connect with First Lady Michelle Obama and the President’s campaign,” the first tweet read.

The account is the first official foray into social networking for the first lady. President Obama has compiled a robust social media profile with a presence on Facebook, Twitter and most recently Instagram.

Michelle Obama’s social jump comes the same week she spoke out against some assertions in “The Obamas,” a book by New York Times reporter Jodi Kantor that details the first family’s experience in the White House.
