THE BIGGEST DAMN LIE: Santorum Says POTUS Can’t Cut Money From Social Welfare, Wants To Cut A Trillion From Military Spending

Now it’s time for our new feature we kicked off last week called “The Biggest Damn Lie.”

All right!  Who’s on the chopping block?  Rick Santorum.  Here’s what he said at Thursday’s night [sic] CNN GOP debate.

MR. RICK SANTORUM:  [The] President of the United States can’t cut one penny out of the social welfare system, and he wants to cut a trillion dollars out of our military and hit our veterans, and that’s disgusting!

[APPLAUSE.]

[END OF VIDEO.]

MR. MARTIN:  Ah!  Here’s the truth, though.  According to my friends at CNN, the President has proposed, over the next ten years, over $320 billion in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and other health programs – a bit more than “one penny.”

As to the trillion dollars in cuts to the military, that is true, and the cut is also over ten years.  But half of that amount is the automatic cut because the Super Committee in Congress, which was agreed to by both parties, failed to agree on other cuts.

It wasn’t the President’s idea, Rick.

Another big chunk is the savings from winding down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which you Republicans lo-o-ove to endorse.

And, finally, spending for veterans is up, Rick, under Pres. Barack Obama.

So, for telling the biggest damn lie this week, the winner is Rick Santorum; but, perhaps, he said it best when it comes to his lie.

MR. SANTORUM:  That’s disgusting!

[END OF VIDEO.]

MR. MARTIN:  Oh, I love it.
