THE BIGGEST DAMNED LIE: Romney Says President Obama Apologizes For America (VIDEO)

This past week in New Hampshire, Mitt Romney had his biggest win to date. He finished with a double-digit lead, and is speech sounded a lot like he was accepting the nomination, rather than celebrating his New Hampshire win. It was filled with many juxtapositions of what the President does and what he will do, but one that stands out is this.

MR. ROMNEY:  And he apologizes for America, and I will never apologize for the greatest nation in the history of the earth.

MR. MARTIN:  Well, good for you, Mitt Romney, but that’s a damned lie.  Conservatives have dished up this same rhetoric since before Carl Rove published an article called “The President’s Apology Tour” in “The Wall Street Journal” in 2009.  It’s a dog-whistle tactic to make the President seem un-American.  Here is what “The Washington Post” has – had to say about this charge from Mitt Romney.  Quote:  “No matter how many times Romney says this, it simply is not true.  We have documented extensively how Obama did not apologize for America in his trips overseas.  It’s a four-Pinocchio error.”

The Pulitzer Prize-winning politifact.org agreed.  Quote:  “While Obama’s speeches contained some criticisms of past U.S. actions, those passages were typically leavened by praise for the United States and its ideals, and he frequently mentioned how other countries have erred as well.  We found not a single, full-throated apology in the bunch.  So, we rate Romney’s statement “Pants on fire.”

So, Mitt Romney, for repeating your own lie, even when you know it’s not true, you are this week’s winner – or, should I say “loser” – of “The Biggest Damned Lie.”
