Hundreds Turn Out For Public Viewing Of The Late Congressman Donald Payne In Newark (VIDEO)
Hundreds of people gathered on the steps of Essex County’s historic courthouse in Newark Monday to receive the body of the late Congressman Donald Payne. Payne, who died last week after a months-long battle with colon cancer, lived a life of firsts. At the age of 33, he became the first African American president of the National Council of YMCAs, and after three elections, he became New Jersey’s first — and only — African American congressman. Now, he’s the first to lie in state at the historic courthouse. (Video by Nyier Abdou/The Star-Ledger)
