ABC NEWS EXCLUSIVE: Enhanced George Zimmerman Video Shows Injury To Back of His Head (VIDEO)

Enhanced video footage of George Zimmerman being taken into custody less than 30 minutes after he shot and killed Florida teen Trayvon Martin shows the neighborhood watch captain with what could be an injury to the back of his head.

The never-before-seen evidence of an injury to  Zimmerman, in this case a gash or mark to his head, would appear to back his claim that he was in an altercation with Martin on the night of Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla. Zimmerman says he shot the teen in self defense after he was attacked.

Zimmerman, 28, claims Martin, 17, punched him in the nose, knocked him down and repeatedly slammed his head into the ground.

The police surveillance video, first obtained exclusively by ABC News last month and clarified by Forensic Protection, Inc., shows Zimmerman exiting the police cruiser with his hands cuffed behind his back. Zimmerman is frisked and then led down a series of hallways, still cuffed. At one point, one of the officers stops to look briefly at the back of Zimmerman’s head.

    The image looks photoshopped to me. You notice it’s not a moving image but only a picture. The footage was pretty clear, and it wouldn’t have totally obscured that kind of injury. We know about the fake photos circulated of Trayvon to try to paint a certain picture. This story ran on GMA this morning. But on ABC Evening News, another expert spoke on it and said that the gash isn’t really there. Also, the expert said that Zimmerman wouldn’t have been walking around so coherently. Another questions I raise, why no bandage on his head for such a “serious injury?” I go back to the funeral director saying that Trayvon didn’t appear to have been in any struggle. If he had, though, wouldn’t Trayvon have as much right to stand his ground as Zimmerman did. Maybe moreso because Trayvon was unarmed and not the pursuer.

      No bandages, no staples/no stitches, and the injury is on TOP of his head.  I suggest they fire their graphic artist.

    Roland I would like to see the video WITHOUT the ABC caption.  If that is an ENHANCED video then we should see the mark when he gets out of the car as well as BEFORE the video stops to give us a STILL SHOT.   The caption covers it up, but it would reveal if that is a MARK or lighting.  To me it seemed to suddenly, and this is already enhanced and rolling, appear sharper just as his head became more visible from the caption.  I think we need to see a MOVING head with the supposed injury.   However, the injury would not back up Zimmerman because he disobeyed the police to stay away.   They keep trying to justify his actions with pointless information.  He hunted down Trayvon… created an unnecessary confrontation… and shot him.  Trayvon is not here to explain his fear for his life.

    We also know networks that have been editing footage for ratings and to hype this situation. This enhanced version is not credible, I prefer something to have come from the FBI, some organization without a bias or motive to make the news, not ABC. From the images enhanced by ABC, photoshopped or not, it’s an superficial abrasion likely obtained when they were wrestling, which everyone saw. It’s not nearly a life-threatening scratch obtained in the this scuffle. The biggest accusation was the broken nose which there is still no evidence of which is why ABC didn’t bring up that detail, only what they had and ran with it, later you’ll probably see some other enhanced video that casts doubt on the last. The news needs to let FBI and DOJ do their investigation and stop inciting innuendo on this case to pander to coveted viewers

      I agree – it isn’t realistic.  I work with PS and will make an educated guess that the person(s) who added the “injury” layer put it on top because they didn’t have the talent/skill to make a realistic wound contoured on the back of the head.

      Notice, too, that the area around the “injury” is bald.  Who shaved it?  Hospital staff?

      If Zimmerman were treated at a hospital for a wound of that size, then surely, the wound was closed with staples or stitches.

      Police or his attorney would be screaming that Zimmerman had a wound that required  X number of staples/stitches.

    At best, the marks would be scratches enhanced by adjusting the gamma.  Perhaps from Trayvon scratching the top of Zimmerman’s head while Zimmerman had him pinned.

    If George really had an injury of the magnitude portrayed in the “enhanced image”, then police would have broadcast images of it long ago.
