Isaac Farris’ Leadership At SCLC Examined

Isaac Newton Farris Jr.’s tenure as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is under “examination,” the chairman of the organization’s board said Tuesday.
The civil rights organization was co-founded by Farris’ uncle, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Rev. Bernard LaFayette Jr., chairman of the SCLC national board, said Tuesday the board was “still deliberating” Farris’ fate. He said a decision could be made by the end of the week.
Farris did not attend the board meeting in Atlanta and could not be reached for comment Tuesday. He has held the position of SCLC president since the unexpected death last year of the Rev. Howard W. Creecy Jr., who was the president.
