MEDIAITE: Anchor TJ Holmes Pulled Over By Police, Tweets ‘Driving While Black Ain’t No Joke!’

Former CNN anchor TJ Holmes was pulled over by police this morning and documented the entire thing on Twitter. After immediately getting pulled over, Holmes posted a photo of the cop car behind him with the caption “Driving while black ain’t no joke!”

Holmes explained that he was only a mile away from his house, and there were two cop cars behind him. He tweeted as a police officer was attempting to explain to Holmes why he was pulled over. Holmes sent out two tweets claiming the police officer was unable to adequately explain why he was pulled over.

Holmes quickly updated his followers with the reason provided by the police officer: he wanted to make sure Holmes had “insurance on the car.” Ten minutes later, Holmes explained that he “managed to avoid jail time,” but admitted that his relationship with the local police may have been “soured” by the experience, adding the hashtag #showmeyourpapers.

  • My nephew is an intelligent, employed young man who happens to drive a nice car thanks to his father.  He’s also 6’5″ and looks like he should be playing football.  He’ been stopped to the point that it’s become harassment.  In Indianapolis, IN.  Parents aren’t sure what to do in fear of making it worse.  So you folks keep sitting on your sidelines while they make laws that target you and yours.  You better get those IDs (they are free) and VOTE this fall!

    • I’m Black and I went to school in Indiana (IU-Bloomington). I know being black there ain’t no joke!

  • Damn shame.
