WASHINGTON WATCH: Roland Cam From The Democratic Convention Floor

While in Charlotte, Roland Martin took the “Washington Watch” cameras to the DNC to talk with some cool folks and to give you the feeling of what it is like to be on the floor during those big speeches. So, check out the Roland cam.

MR. MARTIN:  Folks, I’ve been going to political conventions since 1992, when the GOP met in Houston, and this year was pretty interesting – Tampa and Charlotte.  Well, in Charlotte, I took our “Washington Watch” camera to talk with some cool folks and to give you the feeling of what it is like to be on the floor during those big speeches. So, check out the Roland cam.

[ON LOCATION – CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA.]

[THE CROWD CHANTS THE WORDS TO STEVIE WONDER’S “SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED,” PLAYED AS MICHELLE OBAMA APPROACHES THE PODIUM.  ON THE FLOOR, DELEGATES CHEER.]

MS. OBAMA:  Thank you.

[CUT TO INTERVIEW WITH WENDELL PIERCE.]

MR. WENDELL PIERCE:  I have an answer for Mr. Romney, who said, you know, that we were only proud to elect this president the day we voted for him.  No, I’m prouder of his work today than I was the day I voted for him, and that’s why – even with this campaign – I went a little further.  I began doing fundraisers in New Orleans and – and Martha’s Vineyard – all over – with cast members that I work with and – and people that I knew in the community and business leaders that I’m working with now with my small business, to do everything possible to make sure that this administration gets back in office and we reelect Pres. Barack Obama.

[CUT TO THE FIRST LADY SPEAKING INFORMALLY FROM A PODIUM.]

MS. OBAMA:  We have millions of volun- — millions of volunteers.  Let me tell you.  We got folks out there and so many ways for people to get involved.  So, if you’re wondering, “How do I get involved in this?” “What do I do tomorrow, when I leave here?” go to BarackObama.com.  That’s the first step.

[APPLAUSE, CHEERING.]

MS. OBAMA:  Go there.  Sign up to get involved, if you’re not already involved.

[APPLAUSE.  CROWD SCENE WITH THE FIRST LADY, THEN CUT TO AN OUTDOOR SCENE WITH MS. SHERYL LEE RALPH AND PENNSYLVANIA SENATOR VINCENT HUGHES.]

SHERYL LEE RALPH:  I love politics so much that I sleep with it.  This is my husband, state senator Vincent Hughes.  I believe in the Democratic Party.  I believe in what they stand for.  I love ‘America, the Beautiful.’  Be involved, and stay involved.  Now is not the time to give up on our president.  That’s what I think!  You asked me.  My name is Sheryl Lee Ralph, and I care about these things.  And I think about these things.  After all, I sleep with my politics!

SEN. VINCENT HUGHES:  Amen!

[THE COUPLE AFFECTIONATELY TOUCH HEADS.  LAUGHTER AND AW-WWW’S FROM THE CROWD.  APPLAUSE.  CUT BACK TO THE THRONG ON THE CONVENTION FLOOR.]

PRES. OBAMA:  We leave no one behind.  We pull each other up.  We draw strength from our victories, and we learn from our mistakes; but we keep our eyes fixed on that distant horizon, knowing that Providence is with us and that we are surely blessed to be citizens of the greatest nation on earth.

Thank you.  God bless you.  And God bless these United States!
