Washington Watch Voter Suppression Update: Early Voting And Voter Intimidation Efforts (VIDEO)

With a week left until Election Day, we want to talk about early voting and when early voting ends, but first, the last-minute attempts to suppress your vote.

There are billboards like this in minority neighborhoods in Ohio and Wisconsin. Folks, this is real simple. If you’re registered to vote, you can vote. No fear. After significant protests against Clear Channel Outdoor, the billboards came down Friday, but the damage may have been done for some voters.

But the most dangerous late voter suppression effort is being waged by an organization called True the Vote, which hopes to train one million poll challengers. They will be at voting places, asking questions about documentation that is not actually needed
to vote.

DO NOT be intimidated. Simply vote. Ignore those folks who’re trying to come after you and stop you from voting.

MR. MARTIN:  Welcome back.

It’s time now for our voting update.  With just nine days ’til Election Day, we want to talk about early voting and when early voting ends, but first, the last-minute attempts to suppress your vote.

There’re billboards like this in minority neighborhoods in Ohio and Wisconsin.  Folks, this is real simple.  If you’re registered to vote, you can voteNo fear.  After significant protests against Clear Channel Outdoor, the billboards came down Friday, but the damage may have been done for some voters.

But the most dangerous, late – late – late voter suppression effort is being waged by an organization called True the Vote, which hopes to train one million poll challengers.  They will be at voting places, asking questions about documentation that is not actually needed to vote.

Everyone, do not be intimidated.  Simply vote.  Ignore those folks who’re trying to come after you and stop you from voting.

Now, early voting is going on right now in these states, in alphabetical order, so look for your state and [for] when the voting ends.   Now, as we keep saying here at “Washington Watch,” it’s not all about the presidential election.  The down-ballot races – for governor, senator, congressman, state legislators, local officials, judges, school boards, D.A.s – all matter a great deal in our daily lives.  So, vote your choice for president, but don’t stop there.  Also, don’t ignore the constitutional amendments and the other issues as well.

Again, no excuses.  You simply have to vote, and get your family and friends to vote as well.  We know people died for our right to vote, so do not dishonor their memory.  Also, I don’t want to hear any complaining.  I don’t want to hear anything along those lines.  I’m very clear.  You vote, or shut the hell up.

You got it?

Now, just to review, the states with early voting that will decide the presidential election:

•  Colorado ends early voting on Friday, November 2nd.

•  Florida ends early voting on Saturday, November 3rd.  There’s no Sunday

voting in Florida.

•  Iowa ends early voting on Monday, November 5th.

•  Nevada ends early voting on Friday, November 2nd.

•  In North Carolina, early voting ends on Saturday, November 3rd.  There’s no

Sunday voting.

•  And Ohio ends early voting on Monday, November 5th.

•  In Virginia, early voting ends on Saturday, November 3rd.

•  In, Wisconsin early voting ends on Friday, November 2nd.

Got it?  We[’re] all good.  All right.
