Authorities said that around 2 a.m., someone in an older blue BMW opened fire on a crowd of people outside an apartment building in the 1200 block of N. Capitol Street.

Three women and four men are being treated for gunshot wounds at area hospitals, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier has confirmed.

Five other people were also injured, but police have not yet commented on whether those victims were injured by gunshots, flying glass from a shattered bus shelter, or something else.
