SANFORD –Even though he’s not required to, George Zimmerman‘s defense attorney said in closing statements this morning, he will prove to the jury that the Neighborhood Watch volunteer is “innocent,” of murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Jurors are hearing closing arguments from Zimmerman’s defense this morning, who are hoping to convince the panel that the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon was an act of self-defense.

Defense attorney Mark O’Mara played a computer-animated re-inactment it created that the judge would not allow to be included as evidence. It shows Trayvon Martin throwing the first punch at Zimmerman.

“The animation of course is just that, it’s somewhat made up,” O’Mara said. “But it does give an idea, a perspective, that at least is consistent with the evidence presented in the case.”
