WASHINGTON — A Republican congressman from Maryland has this message for people fixating over the verdict in George Zimmerman’s trial: “Get over it.”

Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, was acquitted Saturday in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, a Florida teenager. Trayvon’s death and Zimmerman’s trial have been at the center of a national debate over racial profiling.

“We’re hung up on this one case, where this one fellow was, in fact, found not guilty by a jury. That’s the way the American law system works. Get over it, ” Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., said Tuesday on WMAL radio.

Harris, a conservative who was first elected in 2010, also suggested there has been too much news media coverage — especially on TV — about the trial and its aftermath. “We missed the forest through the trees to a large extent with all the huge issues going on in the world,” Harris said.

Unfortunately, there is normally a lot of news going on in the world that is overlooked by the media when they focus on one case, however when we as a nation have laws like Stand Your Ground that let people murder the innocent, we should be making a ruckus!!! No comments made by legislators surprise me from Maryland or Florida, I have lived in both and they both suck (for lack of a better term).

They need to get over the fact that the president is a black man, then maybe something could get done in Washington D.C. As the previous writer stated how would he feel if that had been his child who was profiled, pursued and killed by someone who had no reason or authority to do anything except call the police and stay where he was.
