SANFORD, Fla. — A tape of George Zimmerman’s interrogation in the hours after he shot Trayvon Martin was played for jurors at Zimmerman’s trial Tuesday.
Members of the jury took notes furiously as the tape was played while Doris Singleton, the Sanford police officer who conducted the interview, testified.
In the interview, Singleton asks Zimmerman to explain what happened that night. Zimmerman says his gated community was dealing with an increase in burglaries, and he started a neighborhood watch program. He says he has called the police on suspicious people in the past, but often people were not stopped.
“These guys always get away,” Zimmerman says on the tape.
