De’Marquise Elkins, 17 at the time, pointed his .22-caliber handgun at the toddler, Antonio Santiago, after shooting his mother, Sherry West, testified 15-year-old Dominique Lang.

“The baby was in the stroller screaming,” Lang said.

Elkins, now 18, is charged with malice murder, felony murder, child cruelty, attempted armed robbery and multiple counts of aggravated assault in connection to the March 21 shooting. His mother, Karimah Elkins, is also on trial in Cobb County Superior Court. Police say she lied to them and helped get rid of the firearm used in the crime.

Lang, also charged with murder, was instrumental in leading police to Elkins. Defense attorney Jonathan Lockwood addressed apparent contradictions in his statements to investigators.
