CHICAGO — Gunfire on the steps of a church in the city’s Uptown neighborhood left five people wounded.

The bullets hit a group of people at Sheridan Road and Wilson. The victims were standing just outside the Uptown Baptist Church. Witnesses say the gunman fired as many as 20 shots from a white car.

Initially, Chicago police said a 21-year-old man died in the shooting, but authorities said Tuesday that was not the case.

Police were still on the scene for hours after the shooting combing for evidence as the intersection of Sheridan and Wilson was closed down temporarily.
