More than 40 people returning to Detroit after commemorating the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington escaped injury Sunday when their bus caught fire on the Ohio Turnpike.
The fire happened 24 hours after a bus traveling to Washington, D.C.,with the same group was involved in a crash that injured eight people Saturday morning.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the Wilmac Tours charter bus was westbound on Interstate 76 in northeast Ohio’s Mahoning County at 9:03 a.m. Sunday when its right rear tire caught fire.
Sgt. Patrick Abel said the fire, apparently resulting from a flat tire, quickly engulfed the bus.
