Swiss Officials Apologize To Oprah For Racism

Source: Ann Oldenburg / USA Today

Earlier this week, Oprah Winfrey mentioned to Entertainment Tonight‘s Nancy O’Dell that she had encountered racism while in Switzerland for Tina Turner’s recent wedding.

Oprah left her hotel to do a little shopping. “I didn’t have my eyelashes on but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear … but obviously the Oprah Winfrey show is not shown in Zurich.” She was by herself and went into a shop and wanted to look at a handbag, “She says to me, no, it’s too expensive,” adding that Oprah “would not be able to afford that.” She refused to give her the purse.

Winfrey left the store without making a fuss, says ET, deciding it was better to leave empty-handed than give the employee commission.

I do not see how that was racist, because some 1 assumes u cannot afford something that doesn’t mean it’s racism, maybe snobbish, and this is from a black man

You will know I can’t pay for something only when I cannot come up with the payment for the item. I need to have that chance to at lease try first.

If a white woman had asked to see the bag, do you think she would have been refused? Probably not….then what would you call it?

so wut does that mean any slight that a person of color receives it has to be racism, i’m not saying it wasn’t but from that report I don’t see racism, heck I have been in stores were the salesperson was a person of color and she said told some young black kids, you can’t afford to buy that so put it back, did it make her racism, my point is if your looking for something you can find it, and if u call every slight racism, then how do you differentiate when it real
