With overwhelming box office victories in its first two weekends of release, and a promising awards season ahead of it, Lee Daniels’ The Butler is on a course to crack the $100 million mark, and in the next few weeks, should catapult its director onto the list of the 10 top-grossing black directors of all time. Lee Daniels‘ four films (of which two were wide releases) have grossed about $101 million to date, which puts him just shy of The Butler star Forest Whitaker‘s $136 million directorial haul. Ironically, a few more weeks of brisk sales could result in Lee Daniels knocking his own star off of that list.
