Julie Chen Reveals She Had Plastic Surgery To Make Her Eyes ‘Bigger’ (VIDEO)

Source: Ann Oldenburg / USA Today

It’s “secret” week on The Talk. We heard Sharon Osbourne talk of her “flingy wingy” with Jay Leno. And on Tuesday, Aisha Tyler made everyone weep as she shared her struggles with infertility.

Wednesday was Julie Chen’s turn. She revealedthat she had plastic surgery years ago to change the look of her eyes.

“My secret dates back to — my heart is racing — it dates back to when I was 25 years old and I was working as a local news reporter in Dayton, Ohio,” she recalled.

She asked her news director if she could fill on for vacationing anchors over the holidays.

“And he said, ‘You will never be on this anchor desk, because you’re Chinese.’ He said ‘Let’s face it Julie, how relatable are you to our community? How big of an Asian community do we really have in Dayton? … On top of that because of your heritage, because of your Asian eyes, I’ve noticed that when you’re on camera, when you’re interviewing someone you look disinterested and bored because your eyes are so heavy, they are so small.’ ”

Painful subject for her. She also had nose surgery. They need to remove Sharon Underwood.

I remember Julie Chen when she was a news reporter in Dayton. I rooted for her when she was here because she was a very good reporter. While I am saddened for her having to confront the realities of television I am disappointed that she continues to “throw my city (Dayton) under the bus” as she tells her story. I am a native Daytonian who celebrated the diversity WDTN brought to its news reporting–including Ms. Chen. I don’t however believe the news director represents the whole city. So while Ms. Chen is very careful to protect the names of the news director, the agent and his/her agency who supported the Asian stereotype she has on various shows painted a rather negative image of the people of Dayton. And that saddens me.

With all the eye shadow and mascara she (now) wears, her eyes still look small, anyway. Sorry she had to get facial surgery to diminish her Chinese ethnicity to ‘fit in’. Sadly, her academic accomplishments weren’t good enough for the ‘shot callers’ of the television industry to not be concerned with her subtle facial features.

I’ve always considered Julie Chen to be absolutely drop-dead gorgeous! I never even imagined she had had plastic surgery. Neither do I believe that removing the fat around ones eyes also removes their heritage. She is, and always will be, Chinese. She was very brave for telling her story and I applaud her for sharing it. Her decision worked for her. She got what she wanted and is an inspiration for scads of people she otherwise may not have reached had she not done what it took to get to where she is. Many people make cosmetic changes. So what’s the big deal? She’s so very beautiful. It worked for her. HIGH FIVES JULIE!!! Also, like Sheryl Underwood said, “Move on…don’t look back!”
