Detroit — The city’s bankruptcy mediators announced a proposed deal between the city and retiree groups to resolve a fight over steep cuts to retiree health care.
The mediators, in a statement released Friday, said the settlement-in-principle reached late Thursday is expected to resolve a bankruptcy lawsuit concerning health insurance and other post-employment benefits for Detroit’s retirees.
Following completion and signing of a mediation agreement, the parties will submit a stipulation to the bankruptcy court dismissing the lawsuit, the statement says.
The bankruptcy court has agreed to adjourn a hearing that had been scheduled Monday, pending submission of the stipulation of dismissal.
