The Jonathan Ferrell case took another turn on Monday as a grand jury decided that CMPD Officer Randall Kerrick will be charged with voluntary manslaughter. This decision comes less than a week after the charge was initially rejected by a grand jury.
The official indictment states that Kerrick “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously” killed and slayed Jonathan Akeem Piarre Ferrell.
According to the NC Attorney General Roy Cooper’s office, the grand jury came to its decision after hearing evidence from the State Bureau of Investigation and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, which had filed the original charges.
The Special Prosecutors in the Attorney General’s Office will continue to handle this case in the court system.
