Ron Kirk has been Dallas mayor, U.S. Senate candidate and U.S. trade representative.
Though he coveted those roles, he says his primary motivation has been his love of the law. Influenced by former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, he says his favorite title has always been “Attorney Kirk.”
Now, after nearly 20 years in politics as an elected official, candidate and bureaucrat, Kirk is living his dream as a big-time lawyer with international reach. He’s joined the Gibson Dunn law firm, where his connections as a former Obama Cabinet member will help him rebuild a law practice he intermittently put on hold.
“I’m uniquely blessed that I’ve always been able to marry my love of the law and my love of politics and go back and forth between the two,” Kirk said. “Now I get the chance to be more intently focused on that first love.”
