Black Leaders Present President Obama With Black Agenda For First Time

For the first time since President Obama took office, a group of African American civil rights leaders presented President Obama with a formal agenda.

The document, first entitled Towards a New Civil Rights Movement for Economic Empowerment and Justice, is now called 1963-2013: 21st Century Agenda for Jobs and Freedom, has been two years in the making.  The first meeting on the report, which would become a formal “black agenda,” was led by National Urban League (NUL) President Marc Morial and took place on December 3, 2012.

A second meeting was held on January 25, 2013.  Over 60 civil rights activists, academics and elected officials contributed to creating the document which includes agenda items such as opposing mandatory minimum sentencing to the Urban Jobs Act authored by Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).  The agenda can be seen on NUL’s site here.

The initial version of the agenda was first introduced publicly in August 2013 during the week commemorating the 5oth anniversary of the March on Washington.  Today was the first time the document was presented at the White House to President Obama.

These Black elected Congress people and leaders in every state can continuously meet with businesses in their own state to effectively setup JOB programs to hire people. You were elected for a reason to Work finding Solutions to issues/problems. Stop all of these glorified do nothing conferences and meetings. After you’ve done your work on setting up these programs then get with President Obama for helpful influence where road blocks exist. The President is not a dictator. He is 1/3 of how our Government Operates. The Congress and Courts are the other 2/3.

Really? Now? During the election year, when a group of activists approached several civil rights activists about the exoneration of Marcus Garvey, we were told we were “pimping” Obama, and that we shouldn’t bring it up because it could damage his presidential chances…. They still haven’t brought it up even though we have gathered over 11,000 signatures: https://www.causes.com/campaigns/36884-urge-congress-to-exonerate-civil-rights-leader-marcus-garvey?utm_campaign=search_widget I On a brighter note, I hope they will remain united at least through the next election cycle.

NO you are lying. This is not the 1st agenda sent to President Obama. WE in NYC were also very aware of that Jan meeting that happened in DC with the chosen talented tenth grouping but no matter what label you give it, they do not represent ME. They are not my leaders.

being treated as a humanbeing, an treated at work with loyality an respect at work.Id want some one to teach Europeans not to bully blacks. Its impossible for Blacks to be their problem seeing their 19 to 1 advantage whites have over Blacks here, yet whites in most parts of the country still bully the only people in the country that have stood in solidarity throught their tuffest times, I remember a time when the entire world hated European Americans, yet it was Blacks here that stood strong against anyone who dare, harm our American brother. When the country has suffered Blacks are the only minority that gave our lifes so your children can live freer than most. is it the least government can do, for this small by loyal an committed minority.

Each and everyone of the people in the photo of this report are aware of the source of the persecution Africans in America are being oppressed by, but they seem timid and hesitant to speak about it. There is a national petition drive going on right now at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/635/615/457 to petition President Obama and Congress to remove the exception from the 13th Amendment. The exception in the 13th Amendment is the adverse and injurious law that has been used to persecute, criminalized, and mass re-enslave Africans in America for 149 years. It is the source of every adverse and injurious law that has been legislated against us in America to this very day. Yet, many of us are afraid to see or understand the scope and depth of what it means. This petition drive is about human rights, human dignity, social equality, and equal opportunity. The exception is a thorn in the paw of America which keeps America in the antebellum slave-power mentality it is in, and the removal of it will strengthen the law of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. Removing the exception from the 13th Amendment will result in the healing of America’s past wrongs and paved the way for the progress of “all” Americans. For anyone reading this, go to the above petition link, sign up and get involved in this historic, just cause.
