A Florida man is accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend with a machete while she was on the phone seeking a restraining order against him, according to police and local reports.
Youvens Madeus, 24, of West Palm Beach is charged with first-degree murder after the body of his girlfriend, Horacia Simeus, was found in their shared home Monday morning.
The 27-year-old victim, who was on the phone with a victim services advocate at the time of the attack, was three months pregnant when attacked, her family told WPTV.
Palm Beach County deputies said Madeus and Simeus were both involved in a domestic dispute when “at some point during the argument, the suspect armed himself with a machete and struck the victim once with it, killing her.”
