President Obama To Launch Major New Effort To Help Young Men Of Color

President Obama will launch a significant new effort this week to bolster the lives of young men of color, seeking to use the power of the presidency to help a group of Americans whose lives are disproportionately affected by poverty and prison.

Obama on Thursday will announce a new White House initiative called “My Brother’s Keeper,” which will bring foundations and companies together to test a range of strategies across the country to support young male minorities, taking steps to keep them in school and out of the criminal justice system, a White House official said. He will also announce that his administration will launch a more vigorous evaluation of what policies work best and publicize results to school systems and others across the country.

The effort will seek “to make sure that every young man of color who is willing to work hard and lift himself up has an opportunity to get ahead and reach his full potential,” the White House official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity ahead of the announcement. “The initiative will be focused on implementing strategies that are proven to get results.”

Obama promised to launch a new project focused on young men of color in one line — widely overlooked — during his State of the Union address last month. His focus on a relatively narrow demographic group is unusual for a president who usually stresses how his policies affect large swaths of the American public. It also comes after the first African American president has faced repeated criticism from those who say he is failing to pay enough attention to this group of Americans.

    ~ A political charade
at best!!! A day late and a dollar short!
President Obama wants his exiting legacy to have a; “Bang/ Bam!” on the black
    communities of America.

~ Make them Negro’s think you served
them in office! Great exiting strategy!

    Have Mercy!!!

Wow…..that was a sad, pathetic response to an otherwise uplifting story. Fact: African Americans are a minority. He had to enact policies that are best for everyone, not just one group. WE as a people have much more voice under this presidency than any other. However he isn’t the black man’s president…he is an American President. Good job President Obama, and thanks.

You say that as if every president before Obama was an American president… they were white men working on white issues while creating black laws. That’s truth..
So we ppl of color should do the same.

What about the 1 percent? Why do they receive special treatment if like you say the president is a American president and MUST enact policies that are best for everyone?

Unless your saying that president Clintons crack vs powder law was good for everybody and not just white America

Ignorant things ppl say even though they see what happens pissed me off

CYA at its best. Barack Obama is weak politically. He has shown his incompetence through the roll-out of the ACA and inability to secure immigration reform, He is serving his legacy – not poor people, not people of color, and definitely not Black people. Fact: AA are at the bottom of the pile in every significant economic indicator and the trend has been receding since he took office. Knee-grows like Darren are quick to offer excuses for this fraud of a man, and loath to put their own interest first. Disgusting.

  • B.S. When you are serious you appropriate money for jobs, and school/work jobs if you want to attach education as an incentive. This is not rocket science. This president is really, really slimy. If he did not appropriate trillions of dollars to protect his Zionist/Israeli relationships are young people would have better schools, educational access, and other restorative measures. If this slimy Zionist was really serious he would not have withdrew his Zionist Secretary of State from the Elimination of Racism discussion. He thinks he is soo smart. Watch what becomes of this NOTHING-They will be PONDERING until he is out of office

He hasn’t corrected the exception clause in the 13th amendment to “properly” free blacks, he hasn’t ended the hopeless war on drugs (the war on us), he hasn’t granted clemency to any of the black political prisoners (free Mumia Abu-Jamal), and there’s a million other things he could do with the snap of a finger. Yet, he chooses to bomb Africa…. What kind of a black man does that??? He just seems like another black cop who’s being used to capture more black people for the prison sweatshop scam.

seems such a shame..its got to be so hard getting done what he as a Black knows he must do..he got his presidency in the hardest of times and dont think he wouldve got his chance had the situation not been so dire. i recall how proud the world was when he was elected.
