March Madness: Mercer Stuns Duke, 78-71

RALEIGH, N.C. – If this marked the end of Jabari Parker’s college career, the South Side native and four-time Simeon state champ will have his regrets.

Parker struggled mightily in Duke’s 78-71 loss to 14th-seeded Mercer, a senior-stacked team that played with tremendous poise down the stretch.

Mercer was a 13-point underdog and Duke was playing about 30 minutes from its campus, but no one should be shocked by the result.

Mercer won the Atlantic Sun conference, which last season produced Florida Gulf Coast, the first No. 15 seed to reach the Sweet 16. And Mercer actually won the Atlantic Sun’s regular-season title last season.
