Mom Who Drove Kids Into Ocean Faces Attempted Murder Charges

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A pregnant South Carolina woman who drove a minivan carrying her three young children into the ocean surf off Florida faces attempted murder and other charges Friday, with authorities saying the children were screaming to bystanders that she was trying to kill them.

Bystanders and officers helped rescue 32-year-old Ebony Wilkerson and her children, ages 3, 9 and 10, from their minivan as it was almost submerged on Tuesday on Daytona Beach.

Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson said Wilkerson has denied trying to hurt her children. However, the children told investigators otherwise and witnesses said she tried to keep them from rescuing them. The windows were rolled up and the doors were locked, and one of the children tried to wrestle the steering wheel away from her, Johnson said.

“She told them to close their eyes and go to sleep. She was trying to take them to a better place,” Johnson said.

I think we take for granted that mental disorder is not a gimmick or hype machine that doctors want more money. This is some serious disease that is happening underneath us. We don’t focus much on it because we never see it as an issue. People can not coexist in this world with little to none help in this world are the one’s who happen to have a difficult time dealing with personal conflicts. All it takes is one moment to bring out the worst in any mental disorder illness to make a person do something that is awkward and unhealthy. What this mom try to do is by far a case of mental blackout where as the moment when something drastically spun her to attempt to murder all four children without clear conscience. I don’t know much about this issue but this is serious stuff.

It is pretty obvious to me that this woman had a psychotic break she was suicidal and was taking her unborn and living children with her. Perhaps if she had been placed under observation for 48 hrs. this might not have happened.

I can hear the judgmental Knee-Grows now. I agree fhall, this woman was suffering from sort of mental dis-order and we can rest assured that the signs were evident before she attempted to commit this tragic act.

Yup Judgemental Knee-Grows. Thanks for making my point. Looks like the truth really does hurt…lol. BTW you feel what for the kids? Try to explain with a minimum of profanity if that is possible. 🙂

I cant begin to setiment these comments. I cant imagine the trauma that this event has had on those kids they are all at impressionable ages and to know she was pregnant. Wow, we really have to take into consideration peoples feelings. She didnt make those kids alone, treat people how you want to be treated.

Lock her up and throw away the key and put those kids in therapy and into loving, caring adoptive families.

    • me

She’s sick. Pray for all of their healing.

I understand that, but every prison has a floor for the crazies. She will fit right in.

        And I will be praying

      • God. Yeah right

praying doesn’t do nothing; who you gonna pray to? Allah, Jesus, Shiva, Thor or the thousands of other “gods” who supposedly created the Earth

        • Power in Prayer

Yea I will pray to God And I will also pray to GOD for you also… God bless you and your soul.

she was having a mental episode and needed to be stabilized & therapy. not jail. it was probably her way for a call for help & the outsiders interpreted the scene as ahe was trying to kill…clearly not the case. why did the kids father drive her deeper into a deeper depression. Most people are unaware of the signs. Mental Illness become more educated. Post-partum depression, is serious & goes untreated. Wake up instead of locking up. Ijs
