Four people were killed and at least 33 others were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon.
The most recent fatality happened early Sunday in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood. Corey Brownlee, 32, was shot in the chest about 2:40 a.m. in the 6000 block of South Indiana Avenue, authorities said. Brownlee, who lived on the same block where he was shot, was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 3:26 a.m., authorities said. A 27-year-old woman was also injured in that shooting and taken to Stroger with a gunshot wound to the right leg, where she is listed in “stable” condition, police said.
About two hours earlier, a man was fatally shot in the South Side Gage Park neighborhood. Joshua Martinez, 20, was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the head and back in the 3000 block of West 53rd Place about 1 a.m., authorities said. Martinez, of the 4900 block of South Karlov Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:26 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged in connection with Martinez’s death and is not expected to appear in bond court Monday.
Another man was shot to death Friday night in the South Shore neighborhood. Shannon Mack, 34, was shot multiple times in the 2800 block of East 76th Street at 9:26 p.m., police said. Mack, of the 6800 block of South Crandon Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:45 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
