Iowa GOP Senate Candidate: Obama’s Race Shields Him From Impeachment

When it comes to Obama and impeachment, Republican Senate candidate Sam Clovis of Iowa believes that race and a concern about the media coverage are the reasons the House of Representatives hasn’t seriously pursued the notion, the Daily Times Herald reports.

“I would say there are people in the House of Representatives right now that would very much like to take the opportunity to start the process,” the retired Air Force colonel and former conservative talk radio host told the news site. “And I think the reason that they’re not is because they’re concerned about the media.”

When pushed by the reporter as to what exactly he meant, Clovis referred to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton, which “didn’t end well,” and the fact that race could make the situation even stickier. “Now we have a situation where race is thrown into the cards as well,” he told the Daily Times Herald. “Whether we like it or not, race is an issue.”
