SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. – Two Long Island high school students have been suspended for allegedly bringing a Confederate flag to school.

Brother Gary Cregan, principal of St. Anthony’sHigh School in South Huntington, said the two seniors walked in with a Confederate flag draped around their shoulders during an after-hours sporting event at the school.

As CBS 2′s Kathryn Brown reported, there is outrage and disgust on Long Island.

“The African-American students who immediately saw it really exercised heroic restraint and fortunately a teacher immediately confiscated the flag and took the students out of the gym,” Cregan said.

It’s hard to believe how people still don’t see that this flag represents ignorance and hate. There is nothing redeemable about this flag’s significance in American History. It is on every Klan Robe and every skinhead jacket. It was flown by losers in our nations Civil War. Rednecks still hold onto it with some sort of unexplainable pride. I know first hand. I live in Houston and have friends who still believe this is some sort of southern heritage thing. It ain’t. It is a sickening display that these people have made into their Idol. It should be burned. I would gladly allow foreigners in the middle east to burn this flag instead of our nations flag.
