Marietta Merchants Say “Selma” Filming Harms Business

The Oprah Winfrey-produced movie “Selma” has been filming in downtown Marietta for several days and a few area businesses are none too pleased.

Not about the film itself, but about the street closures associated with the project, which they say has harmed their bottom line.

“We had one appointment that showed up but if he had known he wouldn’t have come,” said Phillip Duke, owner of the Lucky Draw tattoo parlor. A representative from the production company first made contact a couple of weeks ago.

“They offered us $200 to shut down for the whole period,” he said. “We’re like, are you crazy? We’ve got to pay the rent.”
