There is a startling report this month that examines the correlation between black males, high school diplomas and the possibility of being imprisoned.

According to a study from the Brooking’s Institution’s Hamilton Project, African-American men who do not complete their high school education are at an extremely high risk of going to prison. The report states there is a 70 percent chance that a black male without a high school diploma will end up in jail by his mid-30s.

“It’s a very dramatic statement about the importance of keeping kids in schools and the consequences that occur when you don’t,” said Dennis Parker, director of the Racial Justice Program at the American Civil Liberties Union, told HuffPost Live. “I hope this statistic wakes us up to the problems that we face as a society.
