About Time! @CNN Replaces Anchor Who Suggested Using Water Cannons On #Ferguson Protesters

CNNAnchorFeliciaReplaced

Bye Felicia!!  A CNN anchor who caused a wave of controversy has suddenly gone missing from her reporting duties. As previously reported Rosemary Church sparked outrage and an EPIC side-eye from her cohost Errol Barnett after she suggested that police water cannons (ya know like the ones used during the Civil Rights movement?) on protestors in Ferguson.

No, it was not a stereotypical look from a confused black kid on a 70s/80s sitcom! It is, however, a look from a black man who identifies with the cultural and ethnic struggles inherent in many neighborhoods where the ethnic imbalance makes for violent clashes, and who is in surprise and utter disbelief that such a comment would actually come from a co-host on a global network who, theoretically, would know our country’s history better and would not be . . . well, stupid . . . enough to make such a remark. He is not confused. He is shocked and offended. But, I can see how a less ethnically-sensitive person might attribute his reaction to old comedy, rather than current shock and offense that these things still occur on a global network.

I think Vin was just trying to make a joke about his expression, but yeah, you have a point too.

Stop placing foreigners on the air to report on American issues. They haven’t lived it and don’t understand it. She probably has no idea of the historical significance of water cannons on Black Americans.

I agree to a certain extent, but the mere fact that she would suggest using fire hoses on human beings is horrible in itself and should disgust anyone.

      • Fordf250

I think she was thinking in terms of a less lethal force against a bunch of looters who integrated themselves in the crowd of protesters. She has no US Historical knowledge and probably doesn’t have the images of fire hoses turned on black people during the Civil rights struggle.

Clearly she didn’t think that through. I think we all know what she was *trying* to say, but that was just bad form. Yikes.

Can I just say that I am extra proud of the co-anchor for keeping it together. Yup. I would not have been able to.

    • Lorry G Halfkenny

I concur. Between the bewildered[perplexed] expressions on his face and the finger twirling of his pen-holding hand; i can’t help but wondering if he’s thinking/pondering: ” should i smack her in the face with these sheets of phony news clips on the desk or poke her in her bottom lip with this pen? Either way i’ll lose my job but at least it’ll stop that fear/hate mongering garbage from being broadcast on national television by a so-called professional”….IJS

Yeah but mnyama is right–that’s not how the public would take it. Black man hitting blonde white woman–could you just see it? OMG. Kudos to him for keeping calm. Shame he had to.

He did right. Let her keep talking. For him to interject would have made him out to be the “angry Black male” and she would have gotten off scott free…

    • Dancing Mom

I am sorry but what does CNN International being located in Atlanta have to do with her stupid comment?

      • bsbfankaren

The fact that the woman is living in one of the epicenters of the Civil Rights movement, should have given her a clue at some point black people and “water canon” should never be said in the same sentence.

Does she know those fire-hoses have enough pressure to knock a building down? If you are on an International News Show you should do some research before popping off like that. I am sure Faux News has a seat for her right next to Sarah Palin.

Not to mention it will literally be the same thing as the 60s, that type of response to mostly peaceful protesters is outrageous. The CNN anchor suggesting would definitely spark ill memories of those from that era. Not to mention its not her place to really make suggestions she is just supposed to report.

I am sick to death of this racial divide! It goes both ways! I don’t care what color you are, people need to learn to stop judging everyone, and everything people say and learn to love one another. Love is the key here. Not whether your are white or black! Bottom line is we should all treat people like “WE” want to be treated. I am personally sick of white or black or any other race hanging on to hatered for one another, instead of taking accountability for one’s actions! Grow up America! People are tired of hearing this crap! Take responsibility for your actions, NO matter what color you are!

    • Kato

Well when you have the MEDIA that spread lies about one race of people this is a very serious problem in America. True FBI facts : http://youtu.be/ZXHh41or8Rs

Sure, if you drag out semantics to mean black instead of poor…

          • Serious Questions

I’m not sure where you’re getting “poor” from. O’Reilly said “young black men” and the poster pulled up statistics that were broken down on racial and age demographics.

          • christianh

Without income statistics you’re inventing a reason for crime.. And saying it’s JUST because they’re black as if WE are 100% of the prison population…

I lived in both low-income and middle class neighborhoods with blacks and whites.. Guess which ones had the most crime…

          • Serious Questions

I’m not inventing anything. I’m saying that the statistics the poster chose to present to call O’Reilly a liar actually supported what O’Reilly said. O’Reilly said that young, black men commit a disproportionate amount of crime. The poster presented statistics that showed that was true, apparently without realizing it (or maybe not having noticed that O’Reilly said “proportionally”).

Whether or not poor people commit a disproportionate amount of crime is irrelevant when the person rebutting O’Reilly didn’t bother to bring out those statistics.

Incidentally, when you say, “if you drag out semantics to mean ‘black’ instead of ‘poor'”, that implies that the discussion was about crime by poor people and I chose to interpret that to mean crime by black people.

You’re white, aren’t you? Bless your heart.

Stop lecturing people on anti-racism websites about the evils of racism. WE KNOW ALREADY, IDIOT. Go lecture the actual racists at the right-wing sites. That is where you MIGHT do the most good.

The “both sides” garbage tells me that you are white and that you are, in fact, probably racist.

I think that her comments are being interpreted in the wrong context. While what she said may have set off alarms with some people… its important to note that Rosemary is a journalist from the UK and Australia. She may not have necessarily realized the significance of suggesting using water cannons. She is an anchor for CNN’s international network and often time the international community isn’t aware of or doesn’t always connect things or a concept tied to polarizing events in American history. I say give her a break, obviously it wasn’t comment made with malice or the intent to be insensitive.
