Republicans won big on election day, taking control of the Senate after picking up seven seats in what some are calling a “Republican wave.”
Roland Martin and the “NewsOne Now” Straight Talk panel (Lauren Victoria Burke, Angela Rye, J. Hogan Gidley, Tara Wall and Dr. Jason Johnson) break down the midterm election results, what the GOP did to win as well as what Democrats didn’t do leading up to this year’s midterm elections.
Martin and the “NewsOne Now” Straight talk panel take a look at the Democrats’ relationship with White voters. According to reports, African American voters showed up at the polls for Dems on election day, outpacing White voters by 22 points.
Should Democrats rethink their political strategy to attract more White, working -lass voters and focus on a 50 state strategy?
Closing out the show, Martin shared his personal insight on the election day results saying no matter who won in the 2014 midterm elections don’t just sit on your behind, get involved, get engaged and hold elected officials accountable.
Martin said, “If your candidate lost, if your candidate won, it doesn’t matter. The election was the end of one process and the beginning of another. It is a failure if you are sitting at home right now mad, upset because of what happened on the federal level, on the state level, on the local level. The reality is you have to stand up and you have to be involved in the process.”
Martin went on to say it does not matter if a Democrat or Republican won, “Your job is to hold them accountable.”
