Roland Martin appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to discuss President Barack Obama’s 2015 State of the Union Address.
Martin highlighted Pres. Obama making the case that there are areas where Democrats and Republicans agree and should be able to work together. Two areas where both sides of the isle agree on are education and infrastructure.
Despite all of the topics Pres. Obama addressed during the State of the Union address, Martin, host of TV One’s “NewsOne Now” believes the President missed a couple of opportunities to present other areas where both Republicans and Democrats can come together and get something done.
Martin explained the President should have discussed criminal justice reform. Martin said, “There are Republicans who have finally come around and understand on the fiscal side it makes no sense.”
Martin added, the President could have said there are individuals in the House and the Senate who agree on criminal justice reform. If there can be a compromise with cutting citizen reform and cutting mandatory minimums, Pres. Obama should say you bring me the bill and I’ll sign it.
