CNN Presidential Candidate Town Hall Recap

In their final forum before the Iowa Caucuses, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley tried to convince voters to support them in a town hall. CNN hosted the town hall at Drake University in Des Moines. Each candidate spent 30 minutes on stage alone, fielding questions from the audience to prove they are the best pick.

Blizzard 2016 Update

At least 40 people have died in connection to the blizzard of 2016 that pummeled East Coast states from Massachusetts to South Carolina.

The causes of deaths varied from car accidents, carbon monoxide poisoning and heart attacks while shoveling. States of emergency were declared in seven states and Washington, DC where the National Guard and 400 additional pieces of snow removal equipment were put into action. Cities like New York and Baltimore had record breaking 1-day snow totals. New York saw 27 inches OF SNOW in 24 hours.

Flint Water Crisis Update: FEMA Denies Gov. Rick Snyder Request For $96M In Aid

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied Governor Rick Snyder’s request for 96-million-dollars in aid to help deal with the ongoing Flint, Michigan water crisis.

FEMA says its mission is to assist in natural disasters and that the Flint water situation is a man-made crisis. The Obama administration has already sent 5-million-dollars in direct funds to Flint.

The Academy’s #OscarsSoWhite Plan

With all of the controversy behind the majority of Oscar nominations going to white actors, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have agreed to make substantial changes in their membership to increase diversity. Their goal is to actually double the amount of women and minority voters by the year 2020.

In addition to changing the eligibility status of voting members, the Academy also plans to:

  • Launch a global campaign to identify and recruit qualified new diverse members.
  • Establish Three Governor Seats.
  • Increase diversity by adding new members to its executive and board committees.
