TV One’s First Quarter Ratings On Track For Historic Best For The Network

TV One today announced that the network is on track to achieve what it calls an historic first quarter ratings record this year, for both prime time and total day, thanks to strong reception of original scripted projects in, “Fear Files” and “Hear No Evil,” which pulled in a combined 3.3 Million total viewers across their premiere and encore airings.

Both movies aired the weekend of 03/13-03/15.

Also contributing to the network’s Q1 ratings success were the premieres of the 46th NAACP Image Awards, a sneak peek of new summer comedy “Born Again Virgin,” the Original Movie “White Water,” and returning series “Unsung Hollywood” and “R&B Divas LA.”

– “Hear No Evil” was the #1 Movie on Cable last weekend, and the #2 Non-Sports Telecast on TV in its premiere night among Black Adults 25-54 and Black Females 25-54.

Adult Swim Greenlights New Live-Action Series From Aaron McGruder Titled ‘Black Jesus’

Adult Swim has announced that the network has greenlit a new half-hour live-action scripted comedy from Aaron McGruder titled Black Jesus.

The series will find Jesus living in present day Compton, CA, on a daily mission to spread love and kindness throughout the neighborhood, with the help of his small but loyal group of downtrodden followers, says the press release.

Newcomer Gerald “Slink” Johnson (Grand Theft Auto V) stars as Black Jesus, and will be joined by Charlie Murphy, Corey Holcomb, and John Witherspoon.

Production has begun on the new series in Los Angeles, CA, which will premiere later this year.

Kevin Hart To Launch 24-Hour Digital Comedy Network

Comedian Kevin Hart is reportedly heading into the digital space with a new 24-hour comedy network, to launch later this year.

According to Humor Mill, the as-yet-untitled digital network will cater to an urban audience and could feature sketches, skits, stand up, and behind-the-scenes movie footage.

The new platform will no doubt be a competitor to projects like Russell Simmons’ All Def Digital and Marlon Wayans’ What The Funny, but is unique in its round-the-clock format.

Oliver Stone Exits Martin Luther King Biopic, Says Estate Wouldn’t Approve His Warts And All Script

The Martin Luther King Jr. movie seems to be the white whale of biopics. No less than three different attempts to bring the iconic civil rights leader to the big screen are currently underway, but one of them has just lost a director. Last fall, DreamWorks revealed they were putting together an MLK project and eyeing Oliver Stone to direct, withJamie Foxx in the lead role, and none other than Steven Spielberg putting his weight behind the movie as a producer. But it seems that once again, the King estate has kiboshed a film that won’t show the man in anything less than a perfect light.

Stone hit Twitter today to announce he had left the project and provided details on his script, which would have shown both the herosim and flaws of MLK, and those around him. Here’s what Stone had to say:

ABC’s ‘Scandal’ Marks Most-Watched Telecast Ever & Spikes Over Last Season’s Finale

In its second season finale, ABC’s red-hot Scandal delivered the series most-watched telecast ever (up for the 3rd week in a row) and tied a series high in Adults 18-49 for the 2nd week running. The show also achieved new all-time highs across all key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54). Scandal dominated the 10 o’clock hour, beating the second hour of CBS’ 2-hour Elementary finale by 68% in Adults 18-49 to finish as the #1 TV series in its slot on each of its last 16 first-run broadcasts. Scandal spiked over its year-ago first season finale in Total Viewers (+25%) and Adults 18-49 (+39%). Scandal built on its Grey’s Adult 18-49 lead-in for the 3rd time in 4 weeks.

Scandal Social Stats: Scandal once again topped Thursday night as the most social series with 571,353 tweets, which is its highest number this season. This is up +83% from the prior week, and Scandal has now delivered over 4.3 million tweets this season making it ABC’s most social program. As it has continually done this season, Scandal outperformed the American Idol Finale by +56% (366,061 tweets)
